From Tennessee with its 9 state songs (!?) to New Jersey which technically has none, figuring out the list of state songs for every state can be daunting!
State songs have been such an important part of each US state telling their story and having that state pride, and this guide will list the state songs, marches, and hymns that each state claims for itself so you can use it in your research or presentations.
State songs are interesting, actually, as often they are a matter of honor and tradition and not something that the residents sing along to all of the time.
Sometimes, there are much more “unofficial” state songs that seem to get adopted by people of that state.
After each state song list, you’ll find a link to other songs about that state so you can continue your listening experience and maybe find ones you’re more familiar with.
If you are using this as part of a teaching lesson, check out this beautiful but inexpensive downloadable US state map to help you check off the songs as you go along.
