Whether you’re taking your baby to the Magic Kingdom for the adorable pictures of them in front of the castle wearing these Instagrammable Disney onesies or you felt obligated to not leave them behind on the annual family reunion lest they resent you when they’re old enough to realize, it’s important to know the answer to, “what can babies ride at Disney World?”

Here are 13 of the best rides for infants and babies at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World so you can plan the most magical vacation possible.

Keep in mind that your infant can ride as a “lap baby” on any ride that doesn’t have a height restriction, as well as enter any sit down show.

Anyway, I’ve picked out the following rides for babies at Magic Kingdom with special attention to what actually happens in the ride and whether it might be scary for a very small child, but if you want to take your infant on Haunted Mansion, well, that’s up to you!

Best Rides for Infants at the Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland

1. Tomorrowland Transit Authority: Magic Kingdom baby rides

Also known as the “People Mover,” the Tomorrowland Transit Authority is one of MY top picks for best ride in the Magic Kingdom, and luckily it has no height restriction so the entire family can ride together.

The ride is gentle and smooth, touring you through Tomorrowland and giving you great views of the castle, Tomorrowland Speedway, various shops and also inside of the Buzz Lightyear ride and Space Mountain.

Your baby would be perfectly comfortable sat on your lap on this ride, and you won’t be placed in a ride vehicle with other families.

The one thing to mention is that there is a part where it gets pitch black – and I mean so pitch black you can’t see your hand in front of your face – but this lasts maybe 20-30 seconds and there are no drops or scary movements.

2. Buzz Lightyear Space Rangers

Your infant isn’t going to necessarily be able to work the laser gun or actively participate in this ride, but they are allowed to ride on your lap and there are a lot of different colors and shapes to look at as you ride through.

No part of the ride involves drops or pitch black, though it is a “dark” ride with the targets and aliens lit up on the sides.

If you know your baby can handle the stimulation, Buzz Lightyear Space Rangers is a top ride for babies in the Magic Kingdom.

3. Liberty Square Riverboat

When it’s time for a break from the hecticness of the parks but you’re not wanting to just pull over into the shade and relax for a bit (though I would highly recommend that), try going for a ride on the Liberty Square Riverboat.

The Liberty Square Riverboat gets a bit of a reputation as being that one thing that people walk by but never do, if they even realize it’s a ride at all.

But don’t let its understatedness put you off.

The Liberty Square Riverboat will take you on a relaxing journey around Tom Sawyer Island and you’ll get a unique vantage point of different points of the park.

The Liberty Square Riverboat is one of the best rides for infants at the Magic Kingdom because it’s slow, calm, and you can keep them in their stroller on board.

4. Jungle Cruise

The Jungle Cruise is a ride that regular Disney goers either love or love to hate – it doesn’t seem there’s too much of a middle ground!

If you’ve never been on it, I won’t spoil it for you, but come with your sense of humor in tact!

I love the Jungle Cruise because it’s a Walt Disney World original and has a nostalgic feel to it that’s far removed from the 3D technology and screen-based attractions that seem popular today.

Your baby is allowed on the Jungle Cruise on your lap, and there are no drops or intense movements.

There is a section of darkness, so keep that in mind when deciding if the Jungle Cruise is suited to your baby.

5. The Enchanted Tiki Room

Ah, the Tiki Room.

Another Magic Kingdom classic where you’re serenaded by a bunch of animatronic birds and plants.

The Tiki Room is great for infants for a couple of reasons, namely it’s a show and there is no movement and secondly it’s air conditioned which can be a life saver in a Florida summer (or winter, to be honest).

It does get dark and there is a fake thunderstorm, but overall it’s a cheery and sing-along kind of show that shouldn’t scare your baby too much (unless they are like I was as a baby and scared of absolutely everything).

6. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is my top pick in Adventureland as one of the best rides for babies at the Magic Kingdom. Picture Dumbo, but with magic carpets instead.

Babies can sit on your lap, you can control (for the most part) how jerky your ride up and down is, there are lovely views of Adventureland from up top, and the lack of height restriction means that the whole family can ride together.

There’s also a really fun spitting camel out front of the ride that provides at least a couple of minutes of entertainment and is a quick way to cool off or splash a little bit of water on your infant if he or she is getting overheated.

7. Mad Tea Party

You might know the “Mad Tea Party” as the “tea cups,” and they’re infamous for being a vomit-fest for quesy visitors.

I can’t stand them because I get motion sickness and then want to sit down and die the rest of the day, but hey, if you’re not worried about that, have fun!

Each family gets their own teacup and you can go for a gentler ride if you don’t spin the teacups and let it spin for you, or you can get really crazy and see who can get dizzy first. Your ability to control the spin makes it one of the best attractions for babies at Magic Kingdom.

There’s nothing scary about this ride so infants shouldn’t be scared – instead, there is a lot of music and color and constantly rotating views to look at.

8. “it’s a small world”: Magic Kingdom rides for infants

Perhaps one of the best rides for infants at the Magic Kingdom, “it’s a small world” is a tame boat ride through quite a few different rooms of singing dolls representing different countries.

There are no drops, pitch black moments, or scary movements, and it’s meant to be relaxing, so probably a good one if you need to take a break while giving your baby lots of different interesting things to look at.

Of course, there’s always the chance that your baby can’t stand the ride’s repetitive song and starts crying because of that, but that’s all part of the Disney World experience.

9. Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid

Journey of the Little Mermaid is located in New Fantasyland, which is right past the Beast’s castle behind Fantasyland.

Essentially, you ride this smooth, “dark ride” in a clamshell to see the story of the Little Mermaid.

This ride is tame, doesn’t include any scary drops or movements, and has a few scenes with lots of singing and dancing fish and interesting effects that should keep your infant fascinated.

It doesn’t last long, so I wouldn’t wait hours for it, but it’s a good ride in New Fantasyland for infants, especially if you’re on your way from Fantasyland to Casey’s Corner and are trying to kill some time or have a Little Mermaid-loving child (or adult!) in your party.

10. Cinderella’s Golden Carousel

You can’t go to the Magic Kingdom without taking your baby on Cinderella’s Golden Carousel, c’mon!

This iconic attraction sits right behind Cinderella’s Castle in the middle of Fantasyland and is basically where all dreams come true.

There are no height restrictions, so you get to choose how you situate your baby on the ride.

I’ve seen people sitting behind the baby on one of the horses, holding the baby up onto the horse the whole ride, holding the baby on their arms as they stand next to another child on a horse, or using one of the sit-down carousel options.

If you can swing it and don’t have other children that need to be held, I’d recommend sitting on the horse with them so that they can experience the up and down motion of the ride.

The line for this is never usually too long as a lot of people can fit on at once, and it’s absolutely magical at night when Fantasyland is lit up.

Make it a priority to let your baby experience the carousel during your next trip to the Magic Kingdom.

11. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Magic Kingdom rides for 1 year old

Who doesn’t love Winnie the Pooh and following his adventures through the Hundred Acre Woods?

Bounce along in a honeypot with Winnie and friends on this ride in Fantasyland.

I highly recommend this ride as the best ride in Fantasyland for infants because of the play area before you get on the ride.

They have beautifully themed the waiting area and the lines so that there is always something to look at and play with.

This ranges from a “melting honey” wall to a pretend vegetable garden to a fun bee-themed play area.

Sometimes, it can be so hard to take an infant to Disney World not because of the rides themselves, but because of the waiting in line and having restless babies is no fun.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh gives you plenty to do in line no matter how long you need to wait.

The ride itself has colorful sections with music and narration in the background, and there are no drops or scary movements.

This is a more “active” slow-moving ride as the honey pot does move up and down and mimics the movement of Tigger bouncing or water bobbing in various scenes, but nothing so intense that it would scare your baby.

In fact, the movement may be the one thing that keeps it interesting for them and puts a smile on their face.

12. Peter Pan’s Flight

The final ride in Fantasyland that I’d recommend for babies is Peter Pan’s Flight.

If you have other children, it’s likely that you’re going to be going on this at some point because it’s an iconic attraction and a classic.

The premise is that you’re experiencing the Peter Pan story by flying over the scenes, and it provides a unique vantage point that differs from the standard ride layout.

The ride does get slightly dark in places, but never too much.

The movements are mostly smooth – no thrilling drops or 0 to 60mph moments.

The lines for Peter Pan’s Flight are always incredibly long, but once you get further inside, the queue does have interesting things to look at.

Even better, secure yourself a Fastpass to Peter Pan’s Flight so you can go in the quicker way and not spend hours of your life waiting for one of the shortest feeling rides at Disney World (can you tell I’m a little bitter?)

13. Dumbo The Flying Elephant: Magic Kingdom rides for babies

Now located in an area of the park called Casey’s Corner, Dumbo the Flying Elephant is THE ride at the Magic Kingdom for infants.

Not necessarily because it’s better than the others mentioned, but it has become synonymous with a child’s trip to Disney World after years of being in all of the advertisements and vacation planning videos.

To get a picture of your infant smiling on Dumbo is to have successfully unlocked the key to the Magic Kindom (I’m joking, but sometimes it feels that way).

The best part of the newly revamped Dumbo is that you don’t need to stand in line anymore “in person.”

Instead, you get a buzzer like you would at a restaurant, and you get notified when you should go stand in line since your turn is coming up.

In the meantime, there are places to sit and relax and an area for the children to play and run around and burn off some extra energy.

This innovative way of managing the ride’s line is one of the many ways you know that Disney World is listening to families with infants and giving them the tools and experiences they need to keep the meltdowns to a minimum and the positive family memories plentiful.
